The talk over breakfast on Day 4 of the 2019 Overland Adventure was about how even though camp was at a higher elevation, overnight temps seemed warmer. Perhaps it was the extra bedding—or the extra s’mores around the campfire.
We lined up for our final trail day with plans of visiting a few scenic overlooks before descending into Flagstaff, Arizona, where we would join up with Overland Expo West. Temperatures were mild, the sky was mixed with scattered clouds and sun, and we proceeded through pine forests and across meadows in search of the overlooks. When we found them, our group was stunned by the expansive Arizona red rocks and the natural processes required to etch the canyons into the earth’s surface.
After a break for lunch, we bid our farewells to the dirt as we entered Fort Tuthill County Park and the 2019 Overland Expo West, where participants were shown into the Four Wheeler Adventure Camp. To celebrate the completion of our journey, we gathered for a final feast with some home-style favorites and a raffle with prizes from our generous sponsors.
What’s next? We join the public and the Overland Adventure 2019 participants at the 2019 Overland Expo West, where we will browse expedition gear, learn new outdoor skills, and share stories of exploration with friends old and new.
